Turmeric Hummus

turmeric hummus recipe

A healthy anti-inflammatory snack, rich in protein, good fats & nutrients!

Ingredients
1 tin organic chickpeas (keep some of the liquid)
2 tablespoons organic unhulled tahini
Juice from 1/2 lemon
1 garlic clove
1 tablespoon ground turmeric
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Salt & Pepper
1/4 bunch coriander leaves (optional)

Method
Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blitz at top speed for 10 seconds or pulse a few times. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and blend again at high speed until you reach a desired consistency. If you want to thin out your hummus, just add a small amount of water and blend until you’re happy.

Food As Medicine
Turmeric has amazing anti-inflammatory healing properties due to the ‘curcumin’ compounds. These work on the same pathway as anti-inflammatory medications at stopping the inflammatory cascade.

I regularly prescribe patients to increase turmeric in their diet for any inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, IBS, Crohn’s Disease, acne/skin issues, PMS, headaches, general pain. Anyone can use it as it’s beneficial for everyone’s wellbeing!
